On Sunday, 29 people were killed and 58 injured in a suicide bombing in Mogadishu, Somalia.
At least 17 died over the weekend in Bangui after an attack.
A series of bombings in multiple Iraqi cities this morning killed 31 and injured over 200.
Children victims in the at least 25 dead after a missile strike in Damascus, Syria.
Possible usage of chemical weapons in Syria.
These are just from ONE news source over ONE weekend. A tragedy is a tragedy is a tragedy, but I am sick to death of white Western upper-class privileged people only getting up in arms about the death of other white Western upper-class privileged people. And that comes from a white Western upper-class privileged person.
OPEN YOUR EYES.
Reblogging for the links, not the vitriol; emphasis not mine.
Also a reminder that violence and death are much more important and much larger to us the closer they are to home. I’m fairly certain the Boston bombings aren’t big news in Mogadishu, Bangui, Iraq, or Damascus (edit:) so don’t think that concern for others is a trait only lacking in “white Western upper-class privileged people” or that media has committed unforgivable crimes against humanity by not fully expounding upon each of the reports above, or the countless others like the,.
Please remember calm reason at all times, and thank you for the links.
EDIT: Nothing meant to demean the obvious tragedies of today, but are primarily for future reference for myself and others interested. My own commentary above is in response to the original poster’s commentary.
